The birth of a universe with the First War
Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is a pretty old-school game that was Blizzard's attempt at creating their own version of an RTS game, due to the success of Westwood's Dune series. This version would not nearly be as successful as it's successor Warcraft 2, but it to this day stays one of my personal favourites from the 90's.

The game splits into two factions, being the Orcs and the Humans as the title mentions. The story of the game was written at the time to conclude with the victory of the faction that was chosen, however, the canon lore would be created from parts of certain levels of the game that occurred on both sides.

The mechanics of the game is pretty straight forward that mostly involves you using a mouse and minimal keyboard usage if you're unaware of the hotkeys and select multiple units keys. Each level consist of annihilating everything on the map, thus it's very repetitive on each level. However as you progress you gain access to better buildings, units, upgrades and spells, spicing things up along the way.

It isn't the most beautiful game, but it sure is iconic. Although the game is very unbalanced, this was the inception of what would later become the Warcraft universe and motivation to create Starcraft.

If you're into old games, be sure to pick up a copy of this game on GoG.com, it might be worth your time.
