Years of trucking sim failures have lead to this game being underappreciated!
That being said, it's not all great either. It's one of those games that abuses DLC quite a bit. To the point where it would cost you hundreds of dollars if you wanted to experience everything. Some of the DLC you could technically live without, like the custom paint jobs, but others include the addition of entire states. This is pretty "core" if you ask me. These should have been free and with the clear goal of "we will eventually have the entire continental United States added". There are still plenty of states to add so the cost of such a vision would be tremendous.
Still, even if you just stick to what's available in the vanilla game, there is a good time to be had here. The graphics look good. Truck models look fantastic but the overall environments are pretty sparse.
Backing up your cargo to exactly where the customer wants feels challenging and rewarding when you do it right. Driving in between locations is pretty relaxing and the inclusion of a radio is much needed. You can use a folder of your own mp3's and there is also some pre-configured online radio streams. Not all of them worked for me though and I couldn't quite figure out how to add my local stations, so I opted to just drop mp3's of my favorite GTA radio stations into a folder and use that. Great fun.
