Pain
"Hollow Knight" is a game whose primary purpose is to hurt you without cessation.
The game take place within the infected and decomposing corpse of a cavernous bug-kingdom (an undoubtedly joyful setting) and the artwork is beautiful. Each area is not only meticulously mapped and planned, but the visuals are engrossing while not being overwhelming.
Like Dark Souls, you learn through death. Within every death, something new is gleaned. However, unlike Dark Souls, the silent protagonist of Hollow Knight is actually sympathetic. When a boss kills me for the thirtieth time, I'm not mad at the game. I'm mad at myself for subjecting the little knight to my bad gameplay. I try again not because I feel compelled to do so, but because I want to get it right and help the knight reach the end of his vague quest.
Anyway, enough of that. Great game, go get it.
