Me ranting about Resident Evil
Overall, I thought this was a fun game. I'm still bitter about the direction the general Resident Evil plot has headed since RE5, but this story was at least fun to follow - though being kind of farfetched even for zombie science.
It is (briefly) connected to Revelations (1) and RE6.

I was so thrilled to see Claire and Moira as the leads of this game! Their friendship was entertaining and their co-op play was as well.
I played this game with my buddies, so we would always switch around controlling the different characters. I for one liked how Moira was on "flashlight duty" with some melee and grenade action thrown in. Cooperating was made more interesting this way, but playing Moira could be tiresome at times when you had nothing left to do - especially when you mostly run around with the flashlight pointed at walls and corners to find "shiny spots" with items. Scavenging for items was fun HOWEVER slightly distracting as you will lose some of the immersion and won't be taking in the environment most of the time.
If you're all about gunplay, though, I expect you wouldn't exactly enjoy playing Moira.

Barry's campaign was.... marginally worse. I couldn't help feeling I was playing the Last of Us again, but that aside, we were OVERLOADED with items. Survival is more fun when you don't find yourself ignoring red herbs because you have 4 full stacks already.
The stealthing was pretty fun when you could communicate with your (non-AI) partner Natalia, who can see monster's through walls (the UI for this though was gross-looking in my opinion, and not in the good way - think stinky Sims clouds....)
However, playing as Natalia was less rewarding than playing as Moira in the other campaign. This child can't do any fighting (which is reasonable) but all that's left for her to do is the scavenging for items and keeping a lookout for monsters - while mostly essential when fighting invisible enemies. She CAN throw smoke grenades - no other grenades, though. (Logic?)

A thing we noticed while playing was that Moira and Natalia were almost immortal. If hit by a one-hit-kill, they would merely be incapacitated until rescued, and if on low-HP, they will regain the health after a few seconds without hits. This probably contributed to the overload of items in Barry's campaign.

Claire's story was alright, but fairly straightforward and predictable on some parts. Natalia's story was the biggest mystery in the game, but had a farfetched conclusion to it, in my opinion. If you can give it the suspension of belief, however, it was... alright. The villain was pretty great, all the bullshit plot set aside. They looked pretty terrifying.

It should be noted that this game has two endings - while playing single player, it's fairly easy to get the Good Ending the first time around. But on multiplayer, it's very easy to accidentally get the Bad Ending. And the final chapter took us about 2½ hours to complete so that's quite a lot to replay if you mess up (for very little difference.)

(Also Barry was sucked into the Macho Pit, just like Chris. So there's that.)

To compare a bit to old Resident Evils - no other RE has tried the whole playable non-combat character before, and it was only partially successful. I would personally like to see more of this, however.

GUNPLAYWISE was more similar to RE4-5-6 than Revelations 1. Sprinting and dodging is allowed, which made this a LOT easier than its successor. You could also upgrade various "skills" with the points you gain from each episode, so knife while sprinting and easy dodging was made very available.

PUZZLEWISE, it was better than RE5 (what isn't?) but not at that puzzly level that oldschool RE fans love - it had some cooperative effort ones, but mostly pulling levers, moving a box from A to B or fetching keys.

HORRORWISE.... I don't know. I feel like even jumpscares were scarce. One of my friends were spooked because she didn't feel secure about the controls, but I was only startled once throughout the game. The "altars" were pretty neat, but didn't make up for the lack of atmosphere in the rest of the game.
In a game about Fear, we weren't all that worried.
Revelations 1 may not have won me over entirely either, but it had some GREAT moments (Mayday Promenade) and an overall nice atmosphere.
Revelations 2 was fun and easy to play, like RE6, but didn't have as many variations in gameplay and action events.

NEW GEN RESIDENT EVIL-WISE.... Where were the action buttons? C'mon. We liked those.

Claire's Campaign - Fun! Experimenting w non-combat gameplay! Could use plenty of work and substance, but Nice overall

Barry's Campaign - Here we go again with the middle-aged man dressed head to toe in GUNS (did I mention he has the Magnum from the very beginning? He does) out for REVENGE!!!!!
(Slight spoilers! During a key moment I actually thought he'd abandon his revenge game and take responsibility for this new, small child's safety, but he did not do that so oh well)

DLC - tba I'm not finished
