Very good but short of great
Well, let's start with the pros. The music and graphics are superb, with a really unique visual style that adds tremendous flair to the game. The main quest is a good 8-12 hours with some decent sidequests if you are willing to track them down.
The main con with the game is the controls. While not terrible, the interface can be frustrating. Despite what some "journalists" claim, the controls are not so insurmountable that it breaks the game but I did find myself screaming "bull####" on occasion, something previously reserved for Ninja Gaiden Trilogy on SNES. The boss battles were also a mixed bag. Each has its own unique style and approach, but only about half of them were exceptional with the other half just being uninspired and more annoying than anything. Finally the RPG elements were poorly implemented. Unless you are willing to grind for the necessary funds, most of the higher powerups and expensive items will go unused and you will stick to whatever weapons your opponents drop.
Despite the flaws, it was a very worthwhile experience. Not really worth a replay but good for a "one and done" play through.
