The perfect example of a freemium game back in the day, but with some fun.
Eudemons online is a game from its time. In the core, it is another generic MMO in which you kill monsters, collect loot and level up. This game however has some unique elements, in which you can have two “sidekicks” that you can hatch, raise and use in battle.

In the world of Eudemons, you create a character, join the world of Eudemons and start exploring. You kill some monsters, find some gear and find eggs, which hatch Eudemons or pets over time. There are a lot of different ones and they all have different attacks and abilities. In the “free” game, you find a lot of generic ones, and although cool, the legendary Eudemons can be obtained via de power of VISA or Mastercard. You roam around, complete quests and find more Eudemon pets to try out. Basically, that is all there is to it. This game is a mix between Neopets and World of Warcraft, but a lot more basic.

When I played Eudemons Online, and was much younger, I got attached to my unlocked pets, the same way Neopets has this effect on you. It was just wholesome to see them hatch, follow you around and do your dirty work for you.

The world, its contents and things to do are fine, but I thought it was not that special or revolutionary. It can feel a little empty sometimes and the lack of sound effects (when I played) did not enhance the experience of exploring very much.

Graphicly, Eudemons Online looks fine. The movement of your avatar is fine, the animations are a little stiff but not to bad.

Sound wise (again, when I played), the game falls short. There is nice, ambient music in the background playing, that is actually really well composed, but the big problem was/is, that there are no sound effects. Enemies got bombarded with meteors by my faithful Eudemons, but not a single sound was playing. Maybe this has been improved by now, but I review the game in the state that is was back then.

I mentioned that this game is a product of its time. Nowadays, freemium games give you the illusion that you can play everything for free and that you do not need to spend a single dollar/euro. But back in the days of Eudemons, your progress was limited, and a paid membership was required to progress further, unlock certain quests, merchants and areas. This is fine, that was just how the game was designed, but even back then, it gave the feeling that you are a poor, pathetic slob, until you threw your wallet against the game.

For this reason, I had my fun with this game, enjoyed its atmosphere and gameplay for a while, but then deinstalled in and moved on.

Purely based on the gameplay, I would recommend Eudemons Online, but in comparison, there are a lot of better games on the market with a lot more content.
