Fun game, but the pay-to-win stopped me from playing further.
After Eudemons Online, I tried out Silkroad Online. I was immediately impressed by the character models, the ancient Chinese theme and the enemy designs and I had the feeling that I could have found my next online MMORPG.

The principle of the game is simple, and shares the same format as many other MMORPG’s. You create a hero, kill stuff, level up, and become stronger. You can choose a “job” in which style you play. This can be a trader, hunter or thief. Each class has its own strengths, weaknesses and skills, and the main purpose is to mix classes together in PVP missions and battles, in which hunters protect traders for example.

The world is huge and, in my opinion, a lot more detailed than Eudemons Online. It also had/has a far larger player base and feels a lot more crowded. However, in Silkroad Online, the quests and single player missions are greatly lacking. I searched far and wide on the world map but found not that many things to do solo. After killing the same enemy type for the millionth time, I got a little bored already.

The graphics are not necessarily beautiful, but the theme and art style of the game gives it charm. It was good enough to look at. Sound and music were not that special in my opinion.

In terms of controls and menus, I thought the game was a little complicated. It took some time to get used to.

The reason why I did not play Silkroad any longer that I did, was mainly because of two factors:

The game features pay-to-win. It is free in its core, but if progression is too slow, or your weapon does not enough damage, a simple transaction can solve that issue for you. Sure, there are a ton of games that do this, but I hoped that I could dodge this corporate crap and just play the game until I earned the same rewards, but when I saw level 3 players with glowing armor and shiny swords, I knew that this was going to be a bad time.

Secondly, the game offers only two modes: Killing monsters, and killing players. There is no PVE and personally, I freaking hate PVP, so I realized that this was not the MMORPG for me.

It is just the way this game plays, but for me, the constant feeling of being worth less than other players, because I refused to spend a dime on this game, in combination of all the PVP events and missions that I did not want to undertake, made me quit Silkroad Online.

Would still recommend it for its art style and overall experience, but I personally, would not play it again anytime soon.
