Dungeon Lords Review
This review applies to Dungeon Lords: Collector's Edition. It is also referred to as Dungeon Lords: CE. A newer version was released after, which is named XXL or something similar, in roman numerals. But my review is for the CE.

The game works :D I mean, I was able to complete the game and it offered challenges and wasn't too long. There was a good variety of items, spells and monsters. I did not experience any game-breaking bugs but the game crashed once in a while. Overall, the game just lacked polish and more thorough design and play test.

If I could compare to another game, it would be Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. So it is very open-ended and doesn't hold your hand. You can venture in super hard areas right from the start of the game and there are no loading screens for the outside areas. However, it pales in comparison to Morrowind. Here are pros and cons to give a better idea:

Pros:
- Large outdoors areas with organic vegetation.
- Flexibility in how to deal with monsters.
- Decent monster models and sounds.
- Some memorable experiences (Trial of the Ancients).
- Lockpicking is a mini-game, somewhat fun but definitely challenging.

Cons:
- Lacks polish in many areas. It feels like a roughly finished game.
- You can't load from inside the game, you must exit to the main menu to load.
- Game crashed many times but not too often.
- Feels small in comparison to Morrowind (very small)
- You can't own a house or many as in Morrowind.
- The inventory management / identification is badly designed.
- Not enough quests (compared to Morrowind). In total I did maybe 20 quests in DL, compared to about 200 in Morrowind. 10x more...
- You can swim underwater but your only benefits are chests at the bottom of lakes.

I will stop here. If you want an advice, play these games first. You should enjoy them much more than Dungeon Lords. All are much better:

- ES 3: Morrowind (or Skyrim, not sure about Oblivion)
- Deus Ex 1
- Mass Effect 1
- Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2
- KOTOR 1 & 2
