JAMES SUNDERSCRUNK!!!!!!!!!
i started silent hill 2 the day after finishing 1. i was on a bit of a grind, wanting to play the first three games subsequently. SH2 ended up providing the best experience out of the three games, even if i personally call SH3 my favorite. this is the game i'd recommend folks to start with if they wanted to get into the silent hill series.
this game is a clusterfuck of love letter to crime and punishment; and jacob's ladder. and that's not an insult, this game is bizarre, and i LOVE that about it. the mystery of finding mary was alluring to me, more than finding cheryl in SH1. obviously, things on the surface didn't seem right, and i wanted to investigate and figure out what the hell was going on.
although this game has its weak points, such as the combat and certain levels (looking at you, sewer section...), but the story... THE RAW EMOTION... the only game to ever make me cry before this was omori. and that's a COMPLIMENT! you will NOT be mentally okay after playing SH2 <3
so please, do yourself a favor and check this game out. you will NOT regret it. mary is waiting for you... :)
